Biography


Flavia Brilli was born in Brighton, England, in 1965. Following a Music and Fine Arts degree at Brighton University, she made her singing debut at the Hippodrome in Leicester Square, London, in 1986, performing the song 'The Big Fight' written by Peter Godwin who also wrote Criminal World for David Bowie.


In 1987, she moved to London to pursue a singing and acting career. And first appeared on screen in the popular television series 'Beadles About'. Following the success of 'Beadle's About' she met the renowned composer Michael Nyman. And thanks to the meeting with Nyman, Flavia was featured on the film and soundtrack of Peter Greenaway's film 'The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover'.


From 1996 to 1997, she designed and made original mirrors at her shop Jazz Frames in Camden, London, achieving extensive editorial coverage in various design periodicals, including Homeflair (1995); The London Magazine (1996); Elle Decoration (1996); Homes and Ideas (1996); Inspirations (1996); Time Out (1996), and The News of the World (1997)


On the 15th of December 1996, Flavia's ‘Sunburst’ mirror design was featured on Channel 4 Equinox documentary, Dr Satan's Robot with Terry Gilliam of Monty Python. Flavia's mirrors were notable for being flamboyant, colourful, oversized, and experimental. Including upholstering 8ft x 4ft mirrors in neoprene.


From 1999 to 2003, she became booker and publicist for Central Bar jazz club in Clerkenwell, London, achieving regular publicity in national newspapers and radio: including Time Out, Evening Standard, The Guardian, and Jazz FmJazz performers included renowned guitarist Jim Mullensaxophonist Peter King, saxophonist Gilad Atzmon, and trumpet player Guy Barker.


In 2012, to commemorate the 2012 Olympics in the UK, Flavia designed and made a humourous, ceramic sculpture of the then Mayor of London, Boris Johnson riding his bike with the Olympic emblem. After receiving the sculpture and a book illustrating the process of making the piece, Johnson sent both a handwritten and formal thank you letter to Flavia.


Her first book, London's Favourite Mayor, was a photo narrative book describing the process of making a ceramic commemorative sculpture of Boris Johnson, to celebrate the 2012 Olympics. Her other books include Boris Goes To 'The PotteriesBoka My Passion, Kotor Bay, and an autobiographical short story based on her childhood called Killing Butterflies.
